Who is the Queen of Darkness?

The New Zealand artist Ella Yelich -O'Connor (aka Lorde) speaks the truth that wants to be heard through the teenage life. Lorde has distinct sense of style, unlike other teen/young artist. Lorde has a completely different clothing palette and it based on a Gothic, bold, chic, and sophisticated looks when she performs on stage. Her whole vibe with the dark thick curly hair, deep luxurious voice, and bold lipstick, really reflects and combines absolutely stunning with her fashion choices. Lorde should definitely be everyone's fashion idol because of how fierce, confident, empowering she is in this generation. She is certainly a trendsetter, when it comes to her being at the VMA's, Met Gala, Coachella, concerts, Grammy's, music videos etc. Lorde can switch her look from a more feminine outfit to a simple tomboy look, for example she can pull together a Chanel dress with platform boots and will also introduce herself by wearing black wedge paints with "chunky oxfords". Another look she empowered was when she wore a white Micheal Costello gown in her music video, "Magnets". Overall Lorde is the Queen of Darkness.

Haute Couture

Happy Monday,
Have you ever heard of haute couture? Well, it means, fashion that is handmade with a unique high-end material, precise detailing, and made by the most skilled and proficient sewers. Haute couture refers to the fashion designers or fashion houses that construct many different designs. Two of the criteria fashion houses must meet according to Kristen Peuvion "every season, present a collection of at least 50 original designs to the public, both day and evening garments, in January and July of each year" and "design made-to-order for private clients, with one or more fittings".  Many different fashion websites say it can takes up 100- 700 hours to create one couture dress. Also the pricing for "couture pieces will cost you $10,000, but evening gowns start at $60,000 and can cost upwards of $100,000" (Peuvion). Overall the market for haute couture isn't big. It is stated that "about 2,000 women worldwide purchase haute couture and of those 2,000, only 200 are regular buyers"  (Peuvion).

What 'needs' do you think clothing satisfies? Physical Needs?Emotional Needs? Other Needs?

Happy Friday everyone,
Clothing satisfies so many different types of needs. For example it can satisfy your emotional, physical, appearance, and your confident needs. One way you can satisfy your emotional needs is by blending with the clothing trends around and trying to fit in. Another way you can satisfy your needs is through physical needs by choosing what to wear on a hot summer day weather it's shorts or a skirt. Also it can make you content by making your appearance needs give you figure and volume, giving this you can wear a tight maxi dress with a pair of heels to add extra volume. And you can also satisfy your clothing needs by wearing something you truly feel fierce, ordinary, and powerful, These clothing needs can differentiate throughout the persons style , but I would wear a flower blouse with black leggings and a pair heel boots. In the end everyone has different clothing satisfaction and needs.

Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!

In your opinion, does wearing school uniforms increase learning? reduce violence? reduce stereotyping and prejudice?

School uniforms increase someones education, reduces violence, stereotyping, and prejudice?

Does your clothing affect your learning during school? I believe that by wearing school uniforms it does not increase someones education nor it reduces violence, stereotyping, and prejudice. From wearing uniform throughout my elementary and middle school, I strongly believe that everyone thinks differently when it comes through these subject matters. In school everyone judges one another from head to toe, even though you're wearing the exact same color, shirt, pants, shoes, etc. Not everyone thinks the same about clothing like others so because of this fact violence will continue to happen and stereotyping as well. People will always try to find anything minimum to start offending you. For example the violence will not always be by the clothing you wear, it can begin with the attitude you conduct among people and the social environment you're in as well. Another example when it comes to stereotyping is that students wearing uniforms does not make them blend everyone is unique in there on way and that's how it should always be.

What messages do you think you send through your clothing? What about other people? What messages do you think they send through the clothes they wear?

Many people love to express themselves through many different things. And one of them is through clothing! I believe that everyone has different aspects towards their outfit of the day and it starts with COLOR. For example if someone is wearing neon or bright colors with a tight dress throughout their outfit they are expressing their confident side. Others that wear light pastel colors with a loose clothing item are representing a free soul vibe. Also, for the people wearing dark soulless colors are expressing their silent feelings through them or it can also be expressed as a sophisticated look with a pencil skirt, a blouse, and a pair of pumps. I personally think that I send a lively and romantic message throughout my outfits. For example what I would wear would be a dark blue and white laced blouse with black pants and a bright colored pink pair of flats. In the end everyone has different messages throughout their looks and different opinions.

Why did you choose to study fashion? What do you hope to learn by taking a fashion class?

This year I decided to do something new and join a fashion class. I've always been a creative and stylish type of person. Also I've always loved the different colors, print, and patterns you can mix and match to bring your whole look together into something you created. For example, I love wearing an all black outfit and then adding a bright colorful scarf into my look to add that pop of color and make that the center of attention. Another look I enjoy to put together is wearing neon tribal printed pants or leggings and wearing it with a neutral color button up blouse. With the combinations of colors prints, and patterns, I believe you can go beyond into designing anything you want. All in all I joined this class to learn more about the industry, designing, sewing, hemming, different types of fabrics, sketching, working with new materials, etc.
