ZIPPERS

The beginning of zippers,
was first invented by Whitcomb Judson, in 1893. however it's just happend not to be called a zipper. Back then it was called, "Clasp Locker"....so weird. "With businessman Colonel Lewis Walker, Whitcomb launched the Universal Fastener Company to manufacture the new device. The clasp locker debuted at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair and was met with little commercial success."
After that the new fashion trend was the...Zipper! Everyone, meaning every company promoted the zipper, in children clothing, boots tobacco pouches, men pants, etc. Later on the next big boost for the zipper came when devices that open on both ends arrived, such as on jackets. Today the zipper is everywhere, in clothing, luggage, leather goods and countless other objects. Thousands of zipper miles are produced daily to meet the needs of consumers, thanks to the early efforts of the many famous zipper inventors.

Oscar Fashion

Last nights Oscars awards event was full of stunning and glamorous gowns! The overall 3 trends I saw going on that night was metallics like gold, silver, and black/brown, floral prints, and bow tie suits! These three trends were pretty obvious. The people who wore metallics were quit a few, but the ones that stood out more were, Charlize Theron in Christian Dior Couture and Chopard jewelry, Janelle Monáe in Elie Saab Couture and Forevermark Diamonds, and Jessica Biel in Kaufman Franco and Tiffany & Co. jewelry. The floral print gowns were worn by, Ava DuVernay in custom Ashi Studio, Hailee Steinfeld in Ralph & Russo, and Cynthia Erivo in Monique Péan jewelry. Last, but not least is the bow and tie suits classical worn my most of the men that appeared at the oscars, Ryan Gosling in Gucci and Christian Louboutin, Mahershala Ali in Ermenegildo Zegna Couture and Monique Péan jewelry, and Dev Patel in custom Burberry. One of my all time favorite looks was worn by Hailee Steinfeld in Ralph & Russo. The young star wore a breathtaking gown from the Ralph & Russo. I love how this gown is sticking with a color theme for the evening, but adding some pops of color, as well. The halter neckline and delicate ruffles are a lovely and fun addition to the gown’s silhouette, and show off Hailee’s posture all the more. Her makeup is on point, as usual, and of course, the sleek updo is only perfect given the gown’s neckline. Overall I think it's important for designers to dress up celebrities, so designers can be known and show off their work of art through basically the audiences eye and more people to recognize the designers work.

Grammy Fashion 2017

Last Nights Grammy's was stunning and full of colors. I love when artist come together on one night and enjoy each others performances, awards. and talents all at once! Over their were many amazing gowns, suits, etc. But my absolutely favorite one has to be Rihanana's look I was amazed by how the textures and colors of the top and bottom were totally distant, but yet fitted so perfectly together! I also am a big believer in tattoos being an accessory if you know where to place it and how to work with it and I felt that she did a great job on adding that crop top just high enough where her tattoo is placed. My second favorite one is Katy Perry's look, hers was just so modern and dazzling. I have noticed a lot of the chrome effect on nails, but the way she brought that effect into her top was just really amazing! So eye catching as well. Again I would've never but that top with a fur long maxi skirt and she did!...Whoa. And alas there is also one that doesn't seem well dressed and in this case its...Taraji P. Henson, I over felt like the dress was not appropriate for her, it look to sweet, childish, and too messy. I felt like she belonged in a more fierce, bold, gown especially for the role and way shes been portraying her self into the media. Overall all artist events like the Grammy's and Oscars are the same to me, I think that they all try to someway to be unique, outgoing, friendly, and outspoken as well.

SAG awards

For last nights SAG awards, I noticed a lot beaded, laced, prints, furs and more. Overall the SAG awards fashion was very disappointing, in my opinion. Viewing the gallery I just too many unfitted dresses that didn't quite looked right on the person and some people had dresses that didn't contrast them and it made them appear pale. Some had to many things going on, on their dress or were just randomly placed, which made them appear...blah. The overall trend that I saw was many colors were in the transition of converting into Spring/Summer colors. I saw dark embedded roses, birds, Farris wheels, leaves, stripes etc. My favorite dress was worn by Rachael Zoe, she wore a white laced leopard dress with open shoulders, a boat collar.

Raf Simons

Raf Simons Autumn/Winter collection was very classic, basic, elegant and yet chic all at once. "Raf Simons is a god among New York menswear" I do want to state that he was very particular style. I noticed that he was also saying a message for all youths, to speak up. With that being said, I always loved the idea of artist, designers, public figures, etc speaking up through songs, paintings, wall art, poems, and in this case...fashion! Simons did say that, " when Donald J. Trump was elected President of the United States. While we were working on it, something happened that you would not even imagine. You can only speak up, I think, and bring a kind of energy and things that stand against it. I think that’s my challenge now.” This is very inspiring in my opinion and I think more designers should add diction or any type of message into their collections, designs, etc. Overall I love the way he played with satin materials, duct tape, and more.

McCall Pattern Company

McCall Pattern Company, the home-sewing brand founded in 1863, may seem like a business that time forgot, it finds itself newly fashionable. The company’s headquarters have the look of a corporate environment in the days before digital culture banished clutter. Seems like they are publishing about their beginnings. They've been around for many years and have created many designs to help their customers. Many say they are going out of business because the technology is advancing and anyone can just download patterns. Personally I think, the original and basics are always better just because it's more natural and familiar. In addition, pattern companies will never go out, juts bacuase people love creating their own garments and designs. Everyone is creative and unique.
