Comme des Garcons

Comme des Garcons,  is a Japanese fashion label founded by and headed by Rei Kawakubo. This label began as a side business for styling projects, etc in Tokyo. In the late sixties has morphed into a $180 million fashion empire with over 200 franchises around the globe. With rustic denim womenswear inspired by Japanese peasantry, Rei Kawakubo set up over 100 Comme des Garçons (French for “like some boys”) shops across Japan in the seventies. Then the 80's Rei  brought her own collection to Paris. That include black silhouettes in a mystery way. Though earlier pieces bent the edge of avant-garde—think three-armed jackets, face-shielding turtlenecks, form-fitting gingham numbers stuffed with down bulges in monochrome black—recent collections have been a bit more mainstream, with suits from gold- and silver tweed, Rolling Stone tongue patterns, and floral-motif dresses. Her overall collections are very interesting in a unique way. It's definitely something I've never seen before and that's very rare. I overall see that each collection tells its own story and is not misguided in anyway. Sure, every collection tells it's story, but her just stands out more because of the uniqueness and the avant-garde. Overall from looking through all her collections of the most avant-garde is her FALL 2017 collection.

Manufactured Fibers

Manufactured fibers surround you and everything. They are incorporated with your clothing furniture, basically everywhere you go. Rayon was the first to be to produce fibers. It was followed by the acetate. These fibers, along with triacetate and lyocell, are made from cellulose, the fibrous substance in plant life. Combing molecules of nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, and carbon makes most other manufactured fibers. New manufactured fibers are being developed through research efforts all the time. The raw material and chemicals used to make manufactured fibers can vary. They all go through the same basics before they become fibers. Although there are many ways to modify manufactured fibers, each kind of fiber has some typical characteristics. There are other manufactured fibers, but these are used more for specialized protective clothing.

Goals

http://careersonspot.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Goals the object of a person's ambition or effort; an aim or desired result. My personal short term goal is to start being more organized and focused academically, at work, and over just in everything. For example keeping my grades balanced, being social with friends and family, maintaining my room neat, and just keeping my life together. My long term goal, is actually a bit the same as my short term goal, but this case is just more of maintaining good grade so I could go to college and to star saving money. Since I started working back a year ago, I never really had the idea of saving because I was fifteen, and I was young of course. But now that am at the verge of turning 18, I'm realizing that life is stressful and you basically can't do things without money. So saving money is one of my biggest goals. Goals in general are important to have because, I feel that without them your lost. I believe that everything and everyone needs a foundation or base to start something new or different.

Natural Fibers

Natural fibers include:cotton. wool, linen, silk, polyester, cashmere, and many more. These fibers are more Eco friendly and better for our environment. These types of fibers are the foundation of the fabrics, it's like a small hair spanned. One of the most interesting things about about wool is that it's
used in cosmetic, shampoo, ointment, etc. In the other hand silk comes from a worm! Yes a worm. How crazy to think that the insects gave use clothing. From the egg it gives us worm, then it gives us leaves, and then the cocoon's heat. In addition we also have cotton the most commonly used fiber! We wear more than any other fiber because it's cheaper and it's a product we buy. Cotton is more breathable fabric. It's absorbent and it keeps you cool. Cotton comes from and plant or a seed fiber.
Lastly we have, linen, that comes from a flax plant.  Linen is laborious to manufacture, but the fiber is very absorbent and garments made of linen are valued for their exceptional coolness and freshness in hot weather. Cotton is similar to linen.

Spring Denim Essentials

Spring has arrived and denim is in! I would've never thought that denim would pair up so well with the spring weather. Usually when people talk about spring outfits, it's all about the flow shirts, pants, boho looks, floral prints, silks, sandals, etc. Now, we are in a different era and denim is in trend. From not only pants, but tops, jackets, skirts, dresses etc. I personally never thought about it, but I came to a realization that I personally have started wearing denim looks, from vest to pants and as well as jackets! I think that denim give a more edgy look, but yet vintage as well. Which is crazy to think that those two aspects would ever come to mind. Recently, I've been to a few thrift stores like GoodWill and Savers and I have found many denim wear there! To come to think that this trend would be a thrift stores is amazing. It also fits by budget, other stores carry denim wear as well, but in the end you end up spending so much, when you can easily find that same jacket at Savers. My recommendation is that if you're recently now fitting in to the trend is looking for that denim top. Your first should be a thrift store. It's cheaper and it's more better for our environment.

Critical Thinking

LinkedIn
Critical thinking: the objective analysis and evaluation of an issue in order to form a judgment. In the world of fashion critical thinking is a language. -"Language is a system of communication that involves a set of arbitrary symbols" (pg. ... - Fashion is a universal field, involving many different languages, races, genders and forms of communication. Critical thinking in the fashion world is extremely important because you always want to decided what looks best, what goes with what, what to combine etc. You don't want to create something that's not well formed or created. So in this case you really want to think about every detail, decision, etc. One way you will diffidently use critical thinking is when deciding what your collection is going to be. I personally think its a very difficult decision. You want your collection to be as unique and stunning as possible. It's very hard to think about this and as well as to keep your collection through the making of it and the buying, too.

The fashion industry

Fast fashion and fashion in general is harming our planet and is one of the second dirtiest industries. "Fashion is a complicated business involving long and varied supply chains of production, raw material, textile manufacture, clothing construction, shipping, retail, use and ultimately disposal of the garment". Many people don't realize or aren't informed that it takes up to 5,000 gallons to create a shirt...This is outrageous! Not only are we harming our planet by intoxicating it, but were being wasteful. I agree with Fisher's opinion about this industry. This world of fashion is a mess! We use a crazy "amount of natural resources used in extraction, farming, harvesting, processing, manufacturing and shipping". My opinion towards this is we can't stop producing clothing, but we can't stop how they are poorly being made. We should eliminate the parts that are harming our planet and turn them Eco-friendly. Another alternative is that we should as well produce clothing using other materials. Overall, I feel like more designers should deal with the true facts about this industry.

Our group's collection

Pinterest.com
Our group collection is telling a story by saying that a women can be fierce, but yet delicate all at once. That is what were are telling our audience or customers, we want them to feel like they don't just have to be brave or fierce. We all have different emotions at once, and it's OK to feel that way or even act that way. We women have our emotions all over the place, but one way our group identified the stronger and more radiant characteristics of a women were fierce but yet delicate. Our pieces will flow accordingly to our "theme" we have silks, bold colors, light colors, we have embellishments, we have velvet, and that's what we have to create this feeling. The feeling of angelic, but yet confident. I believe that our customers, would love to be part of our story. I mean, I'm pretty sure they'll somewhat relate to this feeling we're evoking. And those who don't, will realize what it actually mean to be a women.

Favorite Fashion Era

From analyzing all the fashion eras, I have to say that my favorite clothing era has to be the 80's! During that time many major events occurred, for example Pac-Man Video Game Released,New Plague Identified as AIDS,  Michael Jackson Releases Thriller, Sally Ride Becomes the First American Woman in Space, Halley's Comet Passes, First PC Virus, Brain, Goes Viral, The Oprah Winfrey Show Gets National Syndication, World Wide Web Invented, and many more. Overall, from all these events, I could sort of see how fashion was created in this era, it was new times, where games were created, the internet, new music, etc and from that I can see how the oversize T shirts were brought in, converse, platforms, and big comfy clothing or shoes were in trend. As well as the hair! which i have always loved how it was frizzy and big. Also, I loved how they also had graphic tees, high waisted pants. One of my favorite trends will always be denim on denim. I feel like a lot of fashion trend have come back today. And I am happy about. Personally, I wear some 80 trends once in a while from my moms closet because she has kept clothing from when she was in her preteens, and I love just customizing it to a more modern style

Mood Board

Mood boards are design to evoke a feeling into the collection. It's to help gain more inspiration on what ever you're creating. While creating our mood board poster with our groups it helped us gain more ideas on what we really wanted. Looking through the fashion magazines it expanded our ways of thinking and added new garments into our minds. Overall our collection is the fierce, strong feminine side of a women, but yet soft and delicate. To be more specific we are going for a fierce pure woman.

Savers

Savers
Yesterday our Fashion Design class took a field trip to Savers! Yes Savers... a thrift store. As a class were having a fashion show and were creating our own theme collection with groups with recycled garments, bed sheets, curtains, and many more. I learned that Savers works for a non profit organization and that Savers goes into homes to pick up bags or boxes of donated things like, clothing, mattresses, furniture, etc. I also learned that anyone can go into savers to donated items and can get a discount. Also I learned that their workers are trained to know what brands are and know how well the material is. And also I learned that they check prices through a computer system. One of the most interesting facts is what ever clothing they don't sell, they end up shipping it to another company and that company ends up shipping it to other countries around the world. Our group found embellishments, dresses, bed sheets, curtains, shirts, and more. Overall our group spent approximately $115 and was below $35 of of our budget! With the materials purchased we're creating boho dresses, suits, and many more! All in all Savers is doing a good thing by working with charities.

Selena Gomez’s Fashion Evolution

From Disney star to Vogue cover girl, Selena's fashion has evolved quite a lot. At first her sense of style was too loose fitted, and it seemed to me she was more shy, edgy, and was still experimenting on maybe was she liked and what she didn't. And that absolutely OK, because she started as a young girl. Throughout time she started changing to becoming more conservative, classy, and sophisticated, to that I felt like she looked a bit to mature and was dressing like she was in her early 30's. Lastly to her big turnaround was to becoming  more feminist, with confident looks, fitted, and chic as well. I personally have always loved her since of style since 2013. I think that the year she changed up her whole wardrobe, into something more herself and something more fierce...Which I love! Above all, I believe everyone first has to experiment on what looks good in them hat doesn't and learn from that as well

Paul & Joe | Paris Fashion Week Fall 2017

"Fearless Fashion: Paul & Joe | Paris Fashion Week Fall 2017"

They caught with with "Fearless". One thing I noticed while watching this runway show is the collection was power! I love how not only the clothing spoke for themselves, but the women as well. I believe that when it comes to expressing you clothing you should as well own with your attitude, posture, and personality! One thing that I noticed were that these women walk with such great fierce and power! Which is amazing because of the circumstance we as women have been going through! Overall with the look and theme of this collection I noticed that it was very 90's inspired and as well with the morden look from today. I as well noticed a lot of casual wear and some semi-fancy dresses. I truly enjoyed looking at how the models looked while they were walking. They owned it! As well as the color scheme, "few metallics, seasoned reds, and moldy greens seen throughout showed little care for color narrowness" Perfect for the Fall! I am truly inspired, I hope to see more of this  designer, because till now I am barely noting them.

Anniesa Hasibuan's

"Fashion is an open world," said Anniesa Hasibuan. "It should be providing opportunities for everybody." Anniesa Hasibuan's statement last year at her New York Fashion Week debut sent all her models down the runway wearing hijabs...a first at NYFW! I love it how artist, designers, photographers, etc create a statement through their own work. I personally love the way Anniesa Hasibuan's work played off here. Anniesa Hasibuan's "For me, fashion is an open world. It should be providing opportunities for everybody. So we don't differentiate people," a soft-spoken Hasibuan told Fashionista, via interpreter, backstage before the show. "Diversity is a beautiful value that everybody should embrace."  Trump becoming a president has impacted many people lives through word of actions, but that does not stop a persons right to speak through their minds. We as society need to all come together and reinforced this nation, before it's too late. And also we should consider the fact that we need to start speaking up. We all have a voice to be heard. I hope this message gets to everyone. We are a free nation. We are humans. We are equal. We are diverse.

Dolce&Gabbana

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have made a trademark of their surnames which is known throughout the world versatility. The two met in Milan in 1980 and designed for the same fashion house. In 1982 they established a designer consulting studio; in time it grew to become "Dolce & Gabbana". They presented their first women's collection in 1985 in Milan, where a year later their store would open its doors. These two Designers address themselves to young people and draw inspiration from them. Adored by the Hollywood stars like,  Madonna, Monica Bellucci, Isabella Rossellini, Kylie Minogue and Angelina Jolie, amongst others. The pair labeled their first collection Real Women, due in part to the use of amateur local women on the runway. Dolce & Gabbana had two central lines (D&G and Dolce & Gabbana) until 2012, when the lines merged under the label Dolce & Gabbana.
What I believ their goal is when designing something for women, is "The Dolce & Gabbana woman is strong: she likes herself and knows she is liked.
A cosmopolitan woman who has toured the world but who doesn’t forget her roots.
A woman who indifferently wears extremely sexy guêpières or bras that can be seen under sheer clothes, contrasting them with the very masculine pinstripe suits complete with tie and white shirt or a men’s vest. She always wears very high heels which, in any case, give her both an extremely feminine and sexy way of walking and unmistakable posture. She loves that so masculine cap imported from Sicily and the rosary of the first Communion which she wears as a necklace. She can indifferently be a manager, wife, mother or lover but she is always - and in whatever case - thoroughly a woman." The discription of a what a women looks like in their design, is truly amazing. As well they included men, "And the same is true for the man. At his ease, he dresses for himself, a little hedonistic he pays considerable attention to details. He loves everything that doesn’t schematize him. He’s free and he’s successful. He can go to the office wearing an impeccable pinstripe suit or equally with worn out jeans and blazer. He’s a man who lays down the rules, he’s not subjected to them. Exuding charisma, he imposes his traditions by wearing the cap, the waistcoat and the timeless white T-shirt vest. Overall these designers have an amazing vision of what a person looks like, classy, elegant, and yet romantic.

Garment construction project

Four techniques I have learned during the constructions of this projects is learned how to sew darts, the different types of zippers, learn how to sew directional stitching, and how to stay stitch. All of these techniques are important for when creating garments, for example, dresses, skirts, collars, jackets, etc. To be more specific about the sewing techniques, darts are sewn into garments, to add volume, structures, and to contour the shape into your body. Darts are important because they add shape into your body, and you want that shape to make you look more fitted and neat. Stay stitching is used on collars, skirts, dresses, so they wont stretch through out time and will stay into it size as well. It's important to stay stitch, because you don't want your clothing to stretch and become loose. The joys of creating a garment is very hard to feel because throughout the process all you do is stress. But when your done with creating that clothing you feel accomplished, proud, and excited. Personally I have never sewn in my life before. so when I'm done with any type of sewing project I feel proud because,I have never though I could sew before. One of the frustrations while creating this project is that the directions are very unclear from your pattern. So, you get confused, a lot and many don't know what to do. Another frustration is that there isn't enough machine to work with, so you have to wait and share. Also, you certainly get mad when your sewing machine isn't cooperating, with you. Overall. I've come to a realization that it isn't easy creating a garment. And that cheap clothing lasts shorter than more expensive clothing. So it's better to spend a bit more on higher end clothing

Red is the new Black?

Milan Fashion Week Fall 2017 trend is red. "Fall’s hot color was impossible to miss at Fendi’s ultrachic fall show, where Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi styled every exit with over-the-knee red boots, including these fiery ensembles captured backstage. Red also spilled over into Milan’s lively streetscapes." The models shown in these articles seem to be wearing red and its stunning. Personally I would say that red is a very daring, fierce, confident color, and I would only wear it, when it came to a night event, like a date, dinner, meeting, etc. But seeing this color be worn on casual chic looks, is pretty fascinating to me.I feel like if you were to go to a walk in downtown, you feel more confident and bright. I hope to see wear this color and see this color more ofthen as we arrive into Fall 2017.

Do You Worry Colleges or Employers Might Read Your Social Media Posts Someday?

Worrying about colleges or employers reading my social media posts? I personally don't worry about anybody reading my post because I have never posted something that would or will ruin my reputation. I feel like I am always careful when commenting, posting, sharing or liking a certain video or picture. I feel like it's really up to you if you care about your future or not. Some might say that if what they post now as teenagers might ruin them in the future, it wouldn't matter to them because they were young, crazy, and free. As a teenager I do feel like I shouldn't be careful, just because I'm still young, exploring, and looking at a whole new world that's out there. So If someone would ever attack me with my teenage post when I'm older, I would simply ignore them and advocate to myself that, it was different times and different persona.
